Uber is looking for a Director of Catalog Operations to lead the team responsible for improving catalog quality, selection, and reliability across our Grocery & Retail business. You will set the operational strategy for turning complex merchant data into a consistent shopping experience, while helping new partners launch quickly and successfully.
This role combines people leadership with analytical judgment and close partnership with Product and Engineering. You will build and develop the team, establish clear priorities, and guide investments in technology and operations that improve customer experience and support merchant growth.
What You’ll Do
- Set the catalog operations strategy. Define the roadmap across product availability, catalog content, selection, and merchant onboarding. Prioritize investments based on customer needs, business impact, and operational effort.
- Lead and develop the team. Hire, coach, and support catalog operations talent. Establish clear ownership, build leadership capabilities, and create a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Improve availability and selection. Help customers find and successfully purchase the products they need. Use data and experimentation to balance selection, shopping reliability, and merchant growth.
- Raise catalog quality at scale. Establish standards for accurate product information, imagery, classification, and other attributes that help customers make confident purchasing decisions.
- Accelerate merchant onboarding. Improve the processes for bringing merchant catalogs and storefronts onto the platform. Partner with commercial and technical teams to shorten launch timelines while maintaining quality.
- Shape the product roadmap. Translate operational insights and merchant needs into clear recommendations for Product, Engineering, and Data Science. Partner on solutions that address recurring problems at their source.
- Expand automation and AI. Identify opportunities to improve data enrichment, quality assurance, and operational workflows through automation, with appropriate measurement and human review.
- Own performance and execution. Define success metrics, establish business reviews, and lead initiatives that improve quality, speed, and cost. Communicate results and tradeoffs clearly to senior leadership.
Basic Qualifications
- Significant experience leading operations, strategy, or related functions in a technology, marketplace, ecommerce, or retail business.
- Demonstrated success managing and developing teams, setting priorities, and delivering results through others.
- Experience leading complex initiatives across technical and business teams.
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to define metrics, evaluate experiments, and translate findings into business decisions.
- A record of building processes that scale and delivering measurable improvements in customer experience or operational performance.
- Clear communication and sound judgment, with the ability to align stakeholders and make decisions amid competing priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with product catalogs, inventory availability, merchant integrations, product information management, or ecommerce content.
- Experience working closely with Product, Engineering, and Data Science to improve customer-facing products.
- Familiarity with grocery, retail, or other marketplaces where assortment and fulfillment reliability are closely connected.
- Experience applying AI or automation to operational workflows and evaluating their impact.
