We are seeking an Sr Engineering Manage with experience building and leading highly scalable, high throughput, low latency, multi tenant backend systems. Beyond technical expertise, we are looking for someone passionate about building strong engineering teams, driving technical excellence, and fostering an open source community. In this role, you will lead a backend engineering team, mentor and grow engineers, shape technical strategy, and collaborate with engineers, product partners, and the broader Cadence community to deliver cutting edge distributed technology.

What the Candidate Will Do:
- Lead and grow an engineering organization responsible for building and operating Cadence workflow orchestration engine.
- Drive execution of multiple technical projects and initiatives from strategy and planning through delivery
- Partner with engineering leaders to define architecture, technical direction, and engineering best practices
- Develop engineering managers and senior engineers through coaching, mentorship, and career growth support
- Contribute to an open source project used by many major companies
- Improve onboarding, observability, reliability, and operability experiences for Cadence
- Collaborate with the open source community, understand user needs, and help shape the future of Cadence
- Define and improve engineering processes used internally and across the community
- Build strong partnerships across engineering, product, and other organizations to drive alignment and execution
- Establish and communicate a long term technical and organizational strategy for Cadence
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience leading and developing software engineering organizations, including experience managing engineering managers
- Strong background building backend infrastructure and distributed systems
- Experience with highly scalable, high throughput, low latency, multi tenant systems
- Solid understanding of software engineering fundamentals and system design
- Experience working with multiple programming languages, e.g. Go, Java, or C++
- Strong technical leadership skills with the ability to guide architectural decisions, establish technical strategy, and drive consensus across stakeholders
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product partners, and technical leaders
- Experience managing complex, multi-team projects and delivering high quality software
- BS degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field. Masters/Ph.D. preferred
- 10+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including experience managing engineering teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience leading teams/organizations working on distributed systems or large scale infrastructure
- Experience managing engineering managers and developing engineering leaders
- Experience contributing to or leading an open source project
- Experience with workflow orchestration engines
- Strong technical background with a high bar for quality, scalability, and reliability
- Deep knowledge of modern observability, storage, provisioning technologies
- Experience building developer platforms or infrastructure used by other engineering teams

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $267,000 per year - USD $297,000 per year.
For Seattle, WA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD $267,000 per year - USD $297,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k) plan. You will also be eligible for various benefits.
