About the Team
Uber's EMEA Mobility business is a vital engine for growth and profitability, operating across more than 40 countries on three continents. This region presents unique opportunities and challenges due to diverse regulatory, competitive, and economic landscapes.
The EMEA Central Operations team is responsible for all scaled operational management for EMEA Mobility. They collaborate closely with global product and engineering teams and local operational teams to drive growth and innovation across the region. Within Central Operations, the Marketplace Operations team acts as the technical "brain" of the business, managing real-time marketplace dynamics that are instantaneous and complex. This highly centralized and professional team is responsible for the health and efficiency of the marketplace across 1,000+ cities, overseeing a billion dollar budget dedicated to incentive deployment and core pricing. Working at the intersection of data science and product engineering, the team continuously optimizes pricing technology and rider-driver matching to drive incremental improvements that result in outsized financial impacts for the entire region.
About the Role
The Director, Head of Marketplace for EMEA is a senior leadership position, reporting directly to the Head of Central Operations EMEA and serving as a key member of the Central Operations Leadership Team.
This role is responsible for leading the strategy, execution, and technical management of marketplace dynamics—including pricing, incentives, and matching—across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. The ideal candidate will possess the technical depth to bridge the gap between data science and product engineering while effectively leading a high-performing team to optimize the health and efficiency of our mobility marketplace.
What You’ll Do
Create Marketplace Strategy
- Set a clear vision and roadmap for the Marketplace that guides the team’s long-term direction
- Translate Uber’s broader goals into an actionable operational strategy with clear objectives
- Use insights from rider and earner behavior to shape the regional marketplace strategy
- Partner with tech teams to design solutions that strengthen markets and products
- Define the priorities and scope for the sub-teams within the function
Support Marketplace for Growth Bets
- Partner with growth bet leaders and build marketplace architecture for new Serviceable Addressable Markets (SAMs) that we plan to build for
- Defining scale-up strategies, experimentation plans, pricing and incentive models, and early operating playbooks that allow Uber to enter and scale categories with clarity and speed
- Drive the success of growth bets marketplaces through tight performance tracking, rapid issue resolution, and strong cross-functional alignment, ensuring new SAMs reach product-market fit, deliver healthy unit economics, and integrate seamlessly into the broader Mobility business
Marketplace Execution & Optimization
- Lead key initiatives across pricing, incentives, matching, and marketplace health
- Improve throughput/ ROI by applying global and local best practices
- Collaborate closely with Product and Tech to optimize marketplace parameters and build better tools
- Standardize processes and drive throughput gains through local optimizations and new tech
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and develop a high-performing team, setting a high bar for impact
- Foster a culture focused on growth, ownership, and continuous improvement
- Work closely with cross-functional partners to pursue high-value opportunities
- Navigate a matrixed environment with strong, solutions-oriented stakeholder management
What You’ll Need
Basic Qualifications
- 14+ years of robust work experience across business analytics, strategy, finance and project management
- 4+ years of experience leading teams
- Combination of experience working in complex matrix organizations and fast-moving smaller ventures
- Undergraduate or advanced degree in a STEM-related field required (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics)..
