Meet Mark “Marky” Gaspar, a Service Team Lead on our Community Operations team based in Taguig City, Philippines. With over 7 years at Uber, Marky’s journey is a testament to resilience, growth, and the power of inclusion. From starting as an agent to leading teams, Marky continues to inspire with his passion and dedication to making a difference every day.
“I’m Marky—yes, Marky because there are so many Marks at Uber! I’ve been here for 7 years, starting as an agent and growing into a team leader for nearly 6 years, working with over 100 people across 5+ LOBs. Outside work, I’m the eldest in my family and the only deaf member. I love gaming, photography, marathons, trying new coffee, and traveling. Fun fact: The Big Bang Theory is my favorite!”
“Life has come a long way for the deaf community, thanks to tech like video calls, captions, and speech-to-text apps. 10-15 years ago? Totally different story—subtitles were uncommon, ordering food by phone was tough, and people didn’t know how to communicate with us. Today, things are way better, and I’m grateful for how much more accessible life is.”

“When I joined Uber 7 years ago, I was nervous. But from day one, everyone showed their commitment to inclusion—communicating via phone, signing names, and bringing in a sign language interpreter. They made me feel valued, and that hasn’t changed. Diversity here isn’t just talk—it’s action, and it’s only gotten better.”
“I dreamed of leadership but never thought it’d happen so quickly. Uber has supported me in every step, from adapting to my needs during interviews to providing interpreters and training. Even during the pandemic, Zoom transcription was not even close to perfect, they found ways to help. This kind of unwavering support shaped me into who I am today.”

“Challenges aren’t roadblocks—they’re tools for growth. With today’s tech, we have so many resources to make life easier. Embrace them, adapt, and turn obstacles into stepping stones.”
“Supporting someone with a disability is a privilege. While helping us, don’t forget to care for yourself, too. When we support each other, everyone benefits.”
